The Manufacturing Training Alliance is partnering with Southwest Illinois College to provide welding classes to both Missouri and Illinois residents. According to the Southwestern Illinois College website (2008), “The American Welding Society recognizes the Welding program at Southwestern Illinois College as one of the best in the nation…Students gain extensive hands-on experience and learn about employer relationships in preparation for the job market.”

The Welding Technology course is a 12-week comprehensive program designed to help students earn welding certificates in one or two semesters. The classes cover:
•    Shielded Metal Arc Welding
•    Gas metal Arc Welding
•    Flux Cored Arc Welding and Plasma Arc Welding and Cutting
•    Acetylene Welding and Cutting
•    Gas Tungsten Arc Welding
•    Blueprint reading; layout fitup; and how to inspect welds.

The Welding Technology certificate program is designed to train the beginner for entry-level positions in the welding industries and to also offer more advanced technical information and skill for the employed welder. To qualify, applicants must score a 9.0 or better on the TABE test and have a high school diploma or G.E.D. If you have no experience or background in CNC, you may be required to complete the Industry Certification Program before attending the Welding classes.

The SWIC campus is located in East St. Louis, Illinois just a half-block from the MetroLink Station. For driving directions, please click here
